Description

Immerse yourself in the beautiful landscapes of Iceland’s winter with this seven-day guided tour. This tour should not be missed by those eager to see Iceland’s most spectacular sites, such as the Golden Circle, Jökulsárlon Glacier Lagoon, and Lake Mývatn.

Day 1

Experience the best of Iceland on a legendary tour to the Golden Circle, and take in the natural landmarks of Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir and Þingvellir National Park. Marvel at the Geysir geothermal area and watch the Strokkur geyser spout hot water up to 20-25 meters every few minutes. Learn about Icelandic history on your way to Þingvellir National Park, where the rift valley marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Day 2

Explore the incredible landscape of south Iceland, such as the stunning waterfall of Skogafoss and it's neighbour Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can actually walk around and enjoy the view from behind! Here you can explore the glacier up close as you go for a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull glacier. Afterwards head to the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to get some spectacular views by Vík.

Day 3

Continue east to the Skaftafell national park and find an area of unexpected vegetation between the white sheets of ice and the black sands. This morning you can begin with an ice cave tour at a natural glacier and starts with a short hike to the cave, so put on some comfortable hiking boots. You'll need waterproof hiking shoes and warm clothing. At the end of the day, head to the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón to see huge blocks of ice floating in the ice cold waters.

Day 4

On the fourth day travel the East Fjords, home to some of Iceland's greatest diversity of wildlife. There are many quiet fishing villages on the way that give you an excellent opportunity to learn more about Iceland’s culture, history and sleepy way of life. The road will lead you past banks of Lake Lagarfljót, where a wyrm-like monster is said to live and Iceland's largest forest, Hallormsstaðaskógur, with it's many footpaths and trails leading to diverse sites such as waterfalls, moors and coves.

Day 5

Today will be spent exploring the beautiful geothermal region of Lake Mývatn. You'll stop by Dimmuborgir, a field of strangely shaped lava pillars and cliffs making a labyrinth of lava. Next, you'll visit a high-temperature geothermal area cammed the Námaskarð pass, where you can see the earth boiling and smoking up close. After journeying through the north or Iceland you will head back to Mývatn Lake for the night.

Day 6

In the morning you start by driving to Akureyri a town lying just 100 km south of the Arctic Circle. This is the Northern Capital of Iceland. From here you will take a short flight back to Reykjavík where you can spend the rest of your day any way you like.
