Description

Experience riding an Icelandic horse and learn about the traditions around horsemanship in Iceland. Our little farm is located just 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík - but still you feel like you are fthe countryside when you arrive with us. We only have few horses and our riding centre is very small, that way we feel we can keep the atmosphere personal and authentic. This is a private tour, so it can be customized to your riding level. Choose from our standard daytime tour, or in the summertime you can also opt to do an evening or midnight sun tour. Suitable for both beginners and advanced riders.

Full riding time is roughly one hour.

We offer pick up to Reykjavík city centre and other nearby locations. The time of pick up as well as starting time of the tour is flexible depending on your preferences. Our farm is also easy reach by car if you want to arrive on your own.

When you arrive at the farm, we will go over the basics of riding and introduce you to our horses and especially the one you are going to be riding. You will be provided with helmet and gloves. as well as a warm overall if you're visiting us during the winter.

After you have feel comfortable riding your horse we will set out for our tour. During the ride we will tell you about our surroundings, the horses, history and folklore.

We will start at our riding center in Akurholt and ride west and towards the new neighborhood in Úlfarsárdalur. Then we will continue northwards toward the Úlfarsfell mountain and ride the in the hills back to Akurholt.

During the riding trip you will experience the old and the new time face each other. We will start the tour by riding past a new residential area which got hit hard in the economic crash 2008 and was kind of a ghost villages for a while but is now blooming again. Then we will turn towards the Úlfarsfell mountain and take a step back in time.

Until 1941 Iceland had almost no roads and for centuries the Icelandic horse was the only method of traveling on land. Travelers needed to trust the sure footed and rational horses during their often long trips between scattered settlements of Iceland in all kinds of weather and harsh and unforgiving nature.

On our ride you will get a very good view of Reykjavík and surrounding area.

At the end of the tour, we will invite you to have a light lunch with us or some local refreshments.
